Solving industrial problems
The 8D Problem Solving course is lively and interactive. The resources provided will enable you to master the subject perfectly.
Programme
Different approaches for different problems (3 hours)
- Understand and prioritise the different situations that require a problem-solving approach
- Be familiar with the main approaches to progress, rapid thinking and algorithmic thinking
- Familiarity with the main AIC/QRQC, PDCA, Six sigma and SHAININ methods
- Situate the 8D approach among the different methods
- Sheet 8D
8D - from team to containment (3 hours)
- D0 - Decide whether 8D is suitable (prioritisation matrix)
- D1 -Assembling the team
- D2 - Describe the problem (QQOQCP, IS NOT, Mapping)
- D3 - Confining problems (Choice Matrix, Selection Matrix)
D4(1) Identify causes (Standards, people, data) (3 hours)
- Getting people to talk (5M, 5 Why)
- Making standards talk (Deviation from the standard)
- Making data talk (data sheet, concentration diagram, Pareto, Multivari)
D4(2) Identify causes (Products and Processes) (4 hours)
- BOB vs WOW
- B to C
- Pairwise comparison
- Reversal test
- Sequential bifurcation
Complete 8D (3 hours)

- D6 - Implementation and validation of corrective actions (PDCA, RASCI Plan)
- D7 - Prevent recurrence (Standard, automation, perpetuation model)
- D8 - Congratulating the team
Objectives
- Situate the 8D approach among other approaches (6 sigma, PDCA, AIC/QRQC)
- Identifying candidate subjects for an 8D
- Manage an 8D project independently
- Use all the tools needed to lead a working group and identify root causes.

Your feedback
This course gave me the knowledge and mastery of basic statistical tools that are directly applicable to our field of work.
EdgarR&D Technician, Groupe SEB
A methodology that is very accessible for us non-scientists in industry: discovery of the inversion test, ergonomics and intuitiveness of the software used (Ellistat) compared with Minitab.
LaurentMaterials Project Manager, Chatelain G&F
A fun and educational course that makes you want to get your team involved and roll out the approach on the shop floor.
PascalHaute Horlogerie workshop manager
The training really gives you an in-depth understanding of the method and the Ellistat software is a real plus. The trainer is very knowledgeable and dynamic.
ClémentEngineer / Design Group Manager, Bosch Automotive
I now know how to use the tools of the method to solve problems but also to prove that the actions taken are improving the situation.
DenisIndustrialization Engineer, Bosch Automotive
The subject is explored in detail with a logical progression throughout the course, without being drowned out by information. You want to apply what you discover and learn.
NathanMethods Engineer, ORANO
There was no disappointment, quite the opposite in fact, as the course followed a guiding principle. A very refreshing case study of an industrial problem, in the form of a brewery!
VincentQuality Manager, SAINT GOBAIN
